George Dikaios’ research and teaching revolve around policymaking, climate policies & diplomacy, maritime transport policies, and sustainable (blue) development.
George Dikaios is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellow (principal investigator) [funded by the EU] at the Institute of Political Science of Leiden University in the Netherlands. His project title is ‘Climatization of EU Policies: The Case of Maritime Transport’ (climt.eu). He is also a Senior Research Fellow of the UNESCO Chair on Climate Diplomacy and the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), and a Research Fellow of the Institute of European Integration & Policy.
Before joining Leiden University, George was an adjunct lecturer and a postdoctoral researcher at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA); he was affiliated with the Department of Port Management and Shipping and the Department of Political Science and Public Administration.
George holds a PhD in political science and public administration from the NKUA, focusing on EU diplomacy, climate policymaking and international transport (shipping and aviation). He has studied political science with an emphasis on European and international organization (BSc, MSc, MSc) at the NKUA and Leiden University.
George has received several research scholarships and grants for his doctoral and postdoctoral research: Marie Curie Fellowship (2025-27); The Ryiochi Sasakawa Young Leadership Fellowship Fund, SYLFF (2019-20); an A. G. Leventis Research Grant (2020); the Stavros Tsakyrakis Scholarship from NKUA (2021-22); SYLFF Research Grant (2022-23, 2023-24).
